WBS SCI- FI DAY!
By Harry, Sam, Scarlett and Eloise
The West Brigford School engaged in a day of craft and fun on the 16th February 2018
The production of sets, cakes, vehicles, costumes, posters, animations, trailers and storyboards were split between the art and tech rooms and a big presentation ended the day where everyone showed off their movie pitches to the school and faculty. Students said they enjoyed the day and that they would do it again
In the end, 8e took the day and won with their pitch of Tim the time travelling tortoise. Other movies included Immigration law, a movie about alien conquests and Alien Revolution, a movie about aliens invading earth and even road to mars- a movie about earth's overpopulation and them building a road to mars.
But what was actually made?
Every form came up with a creative movie idea and built and made costumes and sets or props all seen below. They worked tirelessly and the product came out wonderfully for all the groups.

What was it like for the teachers?

The day wasn't just one for the children as it was also great fun for all the teachers of Year 8 students who were able to get involved.
Teachers at WBS are passionate and happy to help students with work when they need it. They are constantly there for everyone.
Because of this when it comes to times like Sci-Fi they are very hands on and worked with the students and(whilst providing creative freedom) helped them to achieve their goals and motivate.

Why did we do it?
We did this awesome activity as a way to relax and unwind after a challenging first term of 2018. Additionally we did it as an extension of our schools work in Art and Technology which being the schools specialty is truly legendary.

Was the day all that?
Students said that they really liked the event and certainly wish that they could do it again. They are glad that is happened and think that every year deserves to be extended this courtesy. The day was truly legendary.

Sci-Fi day wasn't the only day like this that our school ran in appreciation of pop culture. As well as running this event annually (for year 8 students) they also run school wide culture and diversity day at a constant rate helping to increase our school acceptance and completely eradicate judgement and discrimination.
But how?
We had a huge amount of help from the tech department and the art department whom, without which that day would not be possible. These teachers and staff who helped organize and develop that day. They bought materials, supervised us and made the hall ready for our presentations. They were incredibly helpful and supportive throughout the day.

It's all finally happening!

We're all busy creating our news reports. We can't wait for you to see them!

The West Bridgford School does Sci-Fi day

Sci-fi day is when all the year 8 tutor groups compete to make a sci-fi movie. Each form was split into different groups to make different things on the day. Their groups like alien food, 3D space vehicles, set design, film promotion, props and alien characters.

Why do we have the day?:
We have the day to make art and have fun also make new friends in other years. Each tutor group had a different film idea. Here is what they made on the day.
8A: Imitation law
The world has become over populated and one in three people have to travel to Arya. The aliens on Arya get annoyed at the puny Earthlings and plan an invasion on Earth. Led by Sachin the glitch and his three friends they delve into a battle for the ages to save the human race.

8B: Road to mars
Earth has become over populated and we need to move. The government has built a road to Mars and it is the best chance Earth has got. Aliens decide to defend their planet by force. Tale of adventure, action and Sci-fi.

8C: Secured
Ordinary people are at work in an asylum then all of a sudden aliens come from space and they are going to rule the Earth. The people have to use what they find in their kitchens to fight. E.g whisks, knives and spoons. The aliens blend in with the humans and  when they strike a human the humans eyes turn white.

8J: Preay into the unknown
In the core of the earth there are a unknown alien species and they are dangerous and when they come to the center of the earth they want to take over the world and they fight the humans and the unfortunately the aliens win and all of the humans died out.

8E: Tim the time traveling tortoise
Tim the tortoise has trouble when his parents die because of the porcupine . He travels by spinning on his back . He makes a friend which is a porcupine but it happens to be that he is evil land working for the porcupines.

The day
On the day 8E won but everyone made a great effort and had lots of fun.
Lewis in tech said “it was very fun I would do it again.”
Josh said, “I enjoyed the day and all troubles that came with it because we learned a lot and had fun”.
Zack in film promotion said “I helped making the trailer and poster”.
Efue also in tech said  “it was a great experience and I hope the next year 8 enjoy it.”

It was a great day and most people liked it because we were off timetable and we had a whole day to design and craft a film.  A lot of students said they would do it again because it was a great day. One student commmented 'it was awesome I would recommend it to most schools'.

Sports at School

Intro

In this article we will be explaining about our BBC School News Report on the west Bridgford School. The topic we will be focusing on is are boys and girls treated in the same way in the P.E department.

Sport Awards

The West Bridgford School is known for the talent in sport, as they have won various competitions and are in the top 100 for their school GCSE’s. Also, they have won several of the Gold sports award for their extra curriculum. There are many individuals in the West Bridgford School that have succeeded in their sport and have gotten numerous awards for it. An exceptional sport leader, Emily, has recently won ‘junior volunteer of the year award’ due to her dedication and hard work. However, overall as a school, we have won many awards, ‘Sporting Secondary School of the Year.’

Interviews

Miss Wray, a P.E teacher, quoted ‘Majority of the sports we provide are for both genders. Rugby, dance, Cross-country; are the few sports which are played by only one gender however there are after school clubs which both genders can participate in e.g. cross- country club’

She thought that they do treat the disabled students equally. They have special events to participate in and they are welcome to every club.Wholeheatedly, she would love to have more P.E lessons and even more pupils to attend after school clubs.

Bradley, suggested ‘more P.E lessons to show that we can work hard so we can try and climb up a step.’

ANIMAL TESTING  16/3/17

Some of The West Bridgford School students have very strong views on Animal Cruelty, hopefully even more. There is going to be an assembly on the 23rd of March about Animal Testing today, and there will be a voting room in one classes. The assembly will include arguments for and against the quote, “Animal Testing is inhumane, therefore it should be banned.” The sixth formers have arranged this assembly, with some key paragraphs, therefore, balancing the argument. This concludes this article, that Animal Testing is cruel, but saves our lives too!
